The place

The house belongs to a row of brownstones built in 1889. The walnut woodwork, the double parlour doors and two original fireplaces remain in place. The rooms take up the three upper floors; the highest looks onto the trees of the park.

The garden-level parlour serves coffee throughout the day. Breakfast is taken around a common table that seats ten.

The neighbourhood

Marcus Garvey Park is across the street, with its nineteenth-century fire watchtower. The restaurants of Lenox Avenue are five minutes on foot. From the 125th Street station, the subway reaches Midtown in twenty-five minutes.
